Excellence Through Professionalism The Hong Kong Institute of Marketing is a non-profit, independent body representing the profession of marketing practitioners in Hong Kong. Since its establishment in 1982, the Institute has been active in the development of Hong Kong's marketing skills; as a representation for marketing professionals at all levels of business; as a monitor of standards and ethics and as a training and education resource.

The Institute has an essential role in the community because of the vital part marketing will play in the development of Hong Kong's economy and external trade in the run-up to 1997 and beyond.

At the same time the Institute is dedicated to providing members with a range of quality services, including a bi-monthly newsletter, the Direction.

POSITIONED FOR GROWTH
The Patron is the Governor of Hong Kong. The Institute has an expanding membership of over 2,000 territory-wide marketing professionals. Policies of the Institute are managed by an Executive Council of 12 elected members. The Institute also maintains an office, centrally located for easy access in Hong Kong Island.

INTERNATIONAL AFFILIATIONS
In order to achieve its objectives, the Institute works closely with marketing bodies in China and overseas, including the Chartered Institute of Marketing in the UK (recipient of a Royal Charter in 1989), the American Marketing Association, the Canadian Institute of Ireland, and the Institute of Marketing Management in South Africa.

As China is a major focus for our members, the Institute regularly organizes visits and conferences with Mainland's marketing associations.

The HKIM also co-founded the Asia Pacific Marketing Federation.
